Temeria Wilcox, CRNP, Family Nurse Practitioner and U.S. Army Veteran, founded NP Family Practice, LLC in 2019 to address the healthcare needs of underserved populations in Southern Maryland. After working for over three years at MedStar St. Mary's Primary Care, Temeria recognized a significant gap in accessible healthcare, especially for the elderly and homebound individuals. Motivated by her passion for providing personalized, community-centered care, she transitioned from employee to entrepreneur.NP Family Practice offers a comprehensive range of services, including primary care, sick visits, chronic disease management, weight management, DOT physicals, school and sports physicals, and care for the uninsured. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Temeria and her team were able to provide thousands of free COVID-19 tests and treatments to bothuninsured and insured patients. NP Family Practice also participated in the HRSA COVID- 19 Uninsured Program, ensuring that uninsured individuals had access to free essential care. With a focus on mobility and accessibility, NP Family Practice continues to bridge gaps in healthcare, making sure no one is left behind.Business LaunchOn July 17, 2019, NP Family Practice LLC officially opened its doors, providing mobile and telemedicine services directly to patients in their homes and community locations. The practice quickly filled a healthcare gap in St. Mary’s County, particularly for patients who found it difficult to visit traditional medical offices. By providing a flat fee, Temeria provided an innovative, affordable option for patients without insurance.

Since its launch, NP Family Practice has seen steady growth:

The business has grown to support five full-time and one part-time employee, with plans to hire more as the practice expands.

NP Family Practice’s revenue has increased consistently each month since opening, driven by the expanding patient base and service offerings.
**Community Impact** As the first and only minority-owned Nurse Practitioner practice in St. Mary’s County, NP Family Practice has made significant contributions to the local healthcare landscape. Temeria’s practice focuses on underserved communities, providing care where it’s needed most. She has also joined local health initiatives, like the NAACP
Health Committee, and regularly hosts health fairs, educational events, and CPR/First Aid training sessions.

With the ongoing support of the SBDC, Temeria continues to look for ways to expand her services and impact. Her practice now offers a variety of wellness services and is developing relationships with local businesses and healthcare providers to extend her
reach even further. NP Family Practice has become a cornerstone of community health in Southern Maryland, providing personalized care with compassion and convenience.
Looking ahead, Temeria plans to grow her team, expand her healthcare services, and further engage the community with health education programs. She remains grateful for the SBDC’s role in helping her realize her vision.
