Early 2015 after being first denied a business loan to start a restaurant, Flavor owners Julia and Vanna came to the Baltimore city SBDC Center for assistance and guidance to secure a business loan and launch their 'lifetime' dream: a full upscale restaurant. After months of working on their Business Plan, and re-adjusting their loan package application the Baltimore city SBDC's business consultant Gabe Omaru was able to successfully help the duo get approved for the approximately $800,000 business loan needed. The funds received as SBA guaranteed loan through a local commercial bank, allow Julia and Vanna not only to purchase the Mount Vernon area building but also to renovate and equip it with a brand new Kitchen and a full service high standard bar.

Very quickly after opening doors, the American food themed restaurant has become a popular eatery spot for food lovers. The menu is perse and offer various taste and flavors to fully embrace the restaurant's name. The owners did not want to be stuck into any specific type of cuisine for their restaurant. "American cooking is a melting pot," Vanna Belton said. "The name Flavor truly reflects our menu" said Julia, one of the co-owner.

The Corridor Region SBDC was honored to hold 3 consecutives staff Christmas party at the restaurant and SBDC consultants and staff who ate at Flavor all agreed that 'flavor' indeed is what the menu is all about.

Furthermore, Flavor's reputation goes beyond its restaurant building located at 15 E Center in the Mount Vernon area of the Charm City (Baltimore). For example, when the Baltimore Center Stage, a highly regarded theater and entertainment institution, recently renovated its premises and decided to add a food menu for its daily patron's; guess who they picked to create a menu and cater to their clientele? FLAVOR.

More importantly, Julia and Vanna were the 2017 SBA recipients of “Women Owned Small Business of the Year “a highly competitive statewide award. During the June 2017's luncheon acceptance ceremony, Flavors owners praised the support and assistance they have received from Baltimore SBDC through its business consultant Mr. Gabe Omaru.

Flavor is just one of the hundreds of the small businesses that Maryland SBDC has positively impacted one way or the other in Baltimore city and across the state. That goes to say that at Maryland SBDC, "we indeed get results".
